Joe advised this is a common question he gets from many Japanese import and North American car owners. This week Joe gives us his view on the topic of Honda and Acura service maintenance and repair schedules.

Your Toronto Honda and Acura has a recommended optimum service interval that depends as much on time and driving conditions as it does on distance. But the fact is, how often your car needs to be serviced has as much to do with how you drive, as it does how far you drive. Repeated, short, stop-start journeys, for example, are one of the hardest forms of work an engine can endure.
Since the engine doesn’t get up to optimal operating temperature for any real period of time it can’t burn off the by-products of combustion. This can lead to a reduction in the oils efficiency to lubricate which, in turn, can lead to premature engine wear and possible engine failure.
If you don’t do a lot of kilometers you should have your Honda or Acura serviced according to the recommended time based service intervals. Alternatively, if you use your car more regularly and drive more than the average distance then your car’s servicing should be based on the recommended distance traveled.
